How can I search for a course by subject?

You can use the Subject Search tab to locate courses.

In the Search for a course subject field, enter the first letter or letters of the subject to refine the list, or the full name of the subject. Then select an item from the list to view the course search details.

How can I search for a course section?

In the Advanced Search tab, please select your desired term. Then, select a Course subject from the Course and Section dropdown menu. You can also use the Search for Course box to find courses by entering a course name, title, or subject. You can enter the course name (for example, math-101 or math101) to locate a specific course in the Search for courses field. You can also enter a keyword to find courses by title. For example you might enter british to find a British Literature course. When you use the Search for courses field, the courses found will be listed in order of how well they match your keywords. After the pertinent courses have been identified, you can select View Available Sections for [course name] to see sections for each specific course.

How can I use a wildcard with the Keyword Search?

The Keyword Search supports single and multiple character wildcard searches.


To perform a multiple character wildcard search, use the "*" symbol. Multiple character wildcard searches looks for 0 or more characters. For example:


To perform a single character wildcard search, use the "?" symbol. The single character wildcard search looks for items that match with the single character replaced. For example:


Note: You cannot use a * or ? symbol as the first character of a search.

How do I view information about the books needed for a course?

When viewing the Section Details, you will also see a Book Details section that provides the following information:

If book costs are displayed, the values are calculated using the price of new books. Displayed book costs are grouped based on whether they are required. A course can have required, optional, and recommended books. If the book total is blank, the cost of the books has not been defined.

Note: that book details may not show depending on the parameters defined by your institution.

How can I search for a courses or sections by term?

On the Advanced Search tab, select the term from the dropdown and press the Search button to see the available courses. The system displays all the courses with sections that are available during provided term.

How can I search for a course or section by section meeting start date and section meeting end dates?

Either select the term or specify dates. Self-Service uses these dates to select sections that fall within the specified date range. If you want to select sections by meeting dates, both dates are required.

How can I search for courses or sections under multiple subjects?

Use the dropdown menu to select up to 6 subjects. If you have entered fewer than 6 subjects and wants to enter more, press the Add More… button. This appends an empty row for your selection. After you press Search, the catalog result displays the courses that have any of the subjects you selected.

How can I search for multiple courses?

First Select the Term. Search for up to 6 courses by selecting Subject from subject dropdown menu and further providing a corresponding course number (if you know it). If you have entered fewer than 6 courses and want to enter more, press the Add More…  button. This adds an empty row for your selection. After you press Search, the course result will display.

How can I search for specific sections?

Specify up to 6 sections by selecting Subject from subject dropdown menu and providing both a corresponding course number and section number. For example, to find section MATH-18 M4281 you would enter “MATH” in subject, “18” in course and “4281” in section. If you have entered fewer than 6 courses and want to enter more, press the Add More… button. This adds an empty row for your selection. After you press Search, the course results display. You cannot enter a section unless you have entered a course number. You cannot enter a course number unless a subject is selected.

How can I search for a specific section using a 4-digit Control Number?

If you know the Section Number or Control Number like 6801, you can enter it in the Search for Courses field in the top right corner.

How can I search courses or sections by location?

Use the dropdown menu to search on single location. The system display all courses or sections that have this location.

How can I search for sections for a specific time of day?

Use the dropdown menu to search on single time of day. The system displays all sections that have meeting times within the selected time range.

How can I search for sections by using time starts by and time ends by fields?

Use the Time Starts by and Time Ends by fields to search the sections by specifying a time. When you specify a Starts by time, the system displays only the sections from start time onwards and later. When you specify an Ends by time, the system displays only the sections before the end time. When you specify a Starts by and the Ends by time, the system displays only the sections within the given time range.

How can I search for sections for specific days?

Use the individual check boxes to select multiple days of the week. The system displays all the sections that meet on those days.

Can I search for courses or sections on multiple conditions?

Yes. Select as many filters as you want on the Advanced Search page. The system displays the results that match all the criteria you specify.

How can I clear out my selections and start over?

Use the Clear button at the bottom to clear all the fields and reset your search.

How do I search for Fast Track classes?

On the Advanced Search page, select Fast Track from the Course Type dropdown menu. Click the Search button. All available Fast Track courses will display. Fast Track courses have irregular start and end dates. This includes short term classes.

What is an AC flag?
